Drupal backup

So, i ‘ve been having some problems. I wanted to feel free to experiment with drupal in my Fedora Core 17 machine, but how could i do this, if i wouldn’t be able to restore fast and easy to a previous working conditions, if everything went wrong. Backup and Migrate module, only seems to offer database backup and various permission problems would come up if i tried to backup from within drupal. Moreover SELinux would complain, if i tried to backup to a folder out of apache’s evil domain. Continue reading

Fedora and Drupal, Part 2

Now we are going to deploy Drupal core. Most of the installation problems with drupal, come not from dependencies, but from file permissions. You shouldn’t consider my way, as the right one, but as one which is tested and working, with the less complaints from drupal. There might be a better way, a safer one presumably, but I found in blogs various methods that either focus only on a minimum installation, which won’t allow themes and modules installation from within drupal, or sometimes even risky permission alterations which could end to an exploitable vulnerability. Well… I ‘ll be creating some of those as well, so don’t feel safe after following this tutorial. Just test, and test, and keep testing…

Fedora and Drupal, part1

Ok all, so you ‘ve decided to test Drupal on a Fedora Core system. Meaning, you chose the hard way, testing Drupal on an OS that runs SELinux, which inevitably will cause you trouble with permissions, other than the casual file permissions having to do with files ownership and access rights. So did I. I ve tested the following commands in FC17, so I can’t guarantee for possible failures in FC16 or previous, although SELinux policies should be the same.
